New Horizons Scholarships
New Horizons Computer Learning Centers is once again offering scholarships to 16 deserving Miami-Dade County Public Schools students. This program, now in its seventh year, is designed to offer students who excel in the study of technology the opportunity to expand their computer knowledge and skills. The scholarships will provide students with the opportunity to enroll in a week long summer course, designed to give them hands-on experience in computer troubleshooting and repair. A student must be nominated by a teacher or school administrator to be considered for the scholarship program. Click here for the winners.

NBC delivers access to current and historic news videos and digital content dating all the way back
to the 1920’s. This one-of-a-kind collection includes mini-documentaries, photos, images, texts,
and primary source materials. NBC also provides up-to-the-minute access to current events tied to
classroom instructional standards. Subjects include history, global studies, government, science,
health and economics with special collections for African American studies, women’s studies,
forensic science and environmental studies.
Online Workshops
The Instructional Technology Department is offering two online workshops through the PBS Teacherline online platform for free.
Squeeze more time out of your day by tapping the power of technology to create teaching materials and assessments; communicate with colleagues, parents, and students; improve lesson planning; and manage information.

Professional Development Courses
In support of the Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT) grant, the Office of Instructional Technology will be providing professional development courses. Substitute coverage will be provided. In support of the schools with Promethean Activboards the office of Instructional Technology will be providing Promethean Activclassroom online training. This eight Master Plan Point course has been designed to familiarize teachers with the core features of Promethean Activstudio software. During this course teachers will learn the basic skills required to create colorful and engaging flipcharts. This is a comprehensive online course located at the Promethean Learning website http://prometheanlearning.com/us/.
Participants must register on the MDCPS Professional Development Menu and Registration System at http://calendar.dadeschools.net.The session is entitled: Promethean Learning Foundation Skills Course. Specific instructions are listed on the registration.
