Professional Development Becoming a Cisco Academy Instructor Requirements

  1. Cisco Networking Academy is unique in its approach to instructor training. Cisco has partnered with educational institutions around the world such as colleges, universities, and secondary schools to provide the highest technical and pedagogical instruction for IT courses. There are many instructor level classes available through Cisco Academy Training Centers (CATCs) and regional academies.

  2. In addition to the high quality of training, Networking Academy provides additional mentoring through support relationships established between each instructor's educational institution and a CATC or regional academy. Various instructional aid such as Instructor Guides, Lab Manuals, PowerPoint Presentations, Lab Simulators, and other interactive tools are available to instructors at no cost when teaching in the program.

  3. Instructors must pass an appropriate instructor level training course through a CATC or regional academy, as well as an Academy Orientation course before they can begin teaching the Academy curricula to students. Instructors can only attend training through the Networking Academy structure if their school institutions participate in the program. Strong technical skills are only half of the equation when pursuing a career in IT. Work experience and workforce readiness are the other key components in the career development of students enrolled in the Cisco Networking Academy Program. An important step in getting real work experience and building job readiness is participating in internship or work placement activities.

The Infrastructure & System Support (ISS) department of M-DCPS established internship opportunities for students enrolled in M-DCPS Cisco Academy Programs. The 2008 Cisco Academy Apprentice Program (C.A.A.P) summer internship is designed to give students real-life experiences in the world of work. During this time, students will take on the roles and responsibilities of valued members of our organization.
