Information Literacy: Florida's Library Media/Curriculum Connections serves as the framework for those skills identified as the essential information literacy skills for Florida Students. A comprehensive document detailing the information literacy skills correlation to the State of Florida's Sunshine State Standards is located at http://www.firn.edu/doe/instmat/ilflmcc.htm
Assisting students to become information literate requires an educational partnership between library media specialists and teachers. Some of the skills may be introduced and taught by the library media specialist, some by the classroom teacher before the students use the library media center, and others taught cooperatively by the library media specialist and teacher working together. Instruction may occur in the library media center or in the classroom, but collaborative planning by library media specialists and teachers ensures the connections between the information skills instruction and subject area content at the appropriate time.
